We've made Bettles our home away from home, largely thanks to the hospitality of Annie and her gang from Spirit Lights Lodge.

I would like to thank you for the wonderful hospitality you showed Marc and myself.  It was refreshing to meet such a warm, friendly person and I was touched in a strange way, because I cannot get Bettles and specifically Spirit Lights Lodge out of my head.  I will recommend your place to anybody I meet that is planning a trip to Alaska. Thank you once again.  Your kindness was exactly what I needed to restore my belief in humans.

We would like to let all of you know what a wonderful and exciting time we had.  People ask me about the trip and I just go off !!!! They think I am crazy, but after the pictures they understand. God Bless you all,

Christine and I had a very wonderful time staying at your lodge.  From the moment you greeted us when our plane arrived in Bettles, we felt like family.  Thank you for inviting us into your lives for just a few days.  We are so glad that we were able to learn about your lodge on the Internet and make our reservations to come visit.  We had such a good time, we can hardly wait until we have the opportunity to come visit again, and for a longer stay!!  The accommodations were great and the home cooked meals were especially terrific!!  You are such wonderful cooks!! The homemade ice cream and pumpkin pie was simply fantastic.  We enjoyed the visit with Max for the dog mushing, getting to know worm, meeting Mr. Harvey Bell, and visiting with the locals.  Thank you for inviting the locals to the lodge during our stay.  It was such a pleasure to sit down and talk with them and to learn just a little bit about their life and culture.  Annie, thank you for telling us about the history of the town and Bernard, thank you for taking us on the tour of the town.  Also, thank you for letting us use your parkas and boots.  They sure came in handy when we were both outside until 4 AM taking pictures of the Northern Lights.  Yes - the Northern Lights were fantastic, especially the morning of March 23, our second night at the lodge.  While we only stayed with you for two nights, we were able to see the lights on both nights.  The weather was great, your lodge was great, the town and scenery was great.  It could not have been a better experience.  Thank you so much for the wonderful hospitality.  You both treated us like family.  We truly look forward to coming back again real soon. We will keep in touch.

Sincerely,

Paul and Christine
Spirit Lights Lodge March 21 - March 23, 2007

Staying at the Spirit Lights Lodge is by far the most wonderful vacation experience I've had. I went snowmachining (snowmobiling), snowshoeing, dogsledding and, most importantly, I saw the northern lights! The locals stopped by everyday and were always willing to offer a good story. I felt more like a visiting friend than a paying guest!

The lodge was very well kept, the food was excellent and the staff was wonderful! They even helped me plan my trip by booking my hotel in Fairbanks and arranging my flight up to Bettles.

I would definitely visit the Spirit Lights Lodge again!

Dear Annie and Bernard
It was a real pleasure to meet such adventurous people.  I had a great time.  Thank you for going to all the trouble of introducing us to the town, arranging for the pot luck, setting up the snowmobiling and dog sledding.  What a  way to start 2007! Thanks for the memories.
