Debbie Nictune was born in the arctic village of Tanana. She started beading at the age of 6 and went on to study art at Brainard Community College and BSU in Minnesota. She is daughter to another Spirit Lights Gallery artist, Florence Nictune.
Evansville sits on the Koyukuk River, in the foothills of the Brooks Range
thirty five miles above the Arctic Circle.
Many of the residents are descended from Frank Tobuk, Sr. Frank was born
in 1900, an Eskimo, and learned Athabascan ways from his neighbors. This
region is a border between the two cultures.
